The Gray Matter Experience (TGME) is a non-profit and entrepreneurial experience program for Black high school students. Our mission is to unlock the self-determining power of Black youth and strengthen their ties to the community through real world experience in entrepreneurship. We believe that by allowing students to serve on the front lines of community growth and ownership, it will increase their self-worth and strengthen their ties to the communities in which they live.

Position Overview

The Gray Matter Experience seeks a talented digital marketing professional to join us as our Content Marketing Specialist. This rewarding position will create, edit, and optimize interesting, relevant, and discoverable content that promotes our mission and entrepreneurial educational programs. By developing a world-class strategy and editorial calendar, you will help define our voice, driving brand awareness and 
marketing direction with content that is engaging and consistent across all media platforms. This position plays a crucial role in our growth as we meet the unique academic, social and emotional needs of high school students engaged in our extraordinary portfolio of programs and enrichment activities.

  • Develop and implement a creative content strategy and editorial calendar to effectively reach our target audience and stakeholders through a variety of digital platforms 

  • Write and edit compelling SEO-optimized content for social media, video, podcasts, eBooks, blog, and other digital marketing resources

  • Create captivating social media posts to highlight accomplishments, fundraising initiatives, program milestones, career opportunities, events, and features

  • Develop a variety of innovative recurring email newsletters to capture valuable information for internal and external audiences including colleagues, students, volunteers, sponsors, donors and partners that capture successes, opportunities, results and accolades

  • Continuously measure and adjust content and report monthly on top performing channels, hashtag performance, paid marketing results, audience growth, impressions and engagement rate to ensure that outcomes align with goals and key performance indicators 

  • Conduct regular research on metrics including on-page optimization, internal and external linking, audience analysis, and keyword research to ensure peak target audience reach

  • Manage website landing page and blog with relevant links, buttons, pop-ups and content briefs to ensure that information is relevant and engaging 

  • Design promotional materials, merchandise, one-pagers and curriculum collateral (slide decks, handouts, worksheets)


  • Some college required; Bachelor’s in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field preferred.

  • At least 2 years of relevant B2C or B2B experience in digital marketing, content writing, social media, and other various marketing technologies 

  • Ability to write for SEO and map keywords to pages, posts and other digital platforms 

  • Experience producing outstanding content for social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and other social media

  • Experience with Canva, Linktree, Sprout Social, Google ads and Facebook ads

  • Eager to thrive both in a team environment and independently with agility and flexibility under minimal supervision

  • Outstanding writing skills, project management skills, and exceptional attention to detail

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with a small team and manage multiple projects simultaneously while balancing daily responsibilities in a fast-paced, startup environment

  • Demonstrate initiative and perseverance to achieve desired outcomes in an innovative environment with a positive disposition and focus on continuous improvement
