The Gray Matter Experience (TGME) is a non-profit and entrepreneurial experience program for Black high school students. Our mission is to unlock the self-determining power of Black youth and strengthen their ties to the community through real world experience in entrepreneurship. We believe that by allowing students to serve on the front lines of community growth and ownership, it will increase their self-worth and strengthen their ties to the communities in which they live.

Position Overview

The Gray Matter Experience is seeking a passionate and experienced educator to join our team as the Manager of Education & Curriculum. This person will be responsible for developing, writing and managing entrepreneurship curriculum with an emphasis on high school students, and will work closely with the Program Director and Program Manager to ensure that TGME’s programming addresses the academic, social, and emotional needs of youth through an array of educational and enrichment activities.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in curriculum design with an extensive understanding of entrepreneurship and business development processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Entrepreneurship Curriculum Design

Enhance existing and create new curriculum for all Gray Matter programs in alignment with the strategic direction of the organization, program strategy, and evaluation metrics.

  • With the Program Director and/or Program Manager, develop a “programming playbook” that allows for efficient program delivery to current & future program partners, and encompasses Gray Matter’s measured outcomes & deliverables set forth in our logic model

  • Create entrepreneurship curriculum for existing program offerings that could be facilitated virtually, in-person, on in an e-learning environment (to be determined by the specific program scope)

  • Regularly review content to provide quality control & continuous improvement based on overall student engagement and program metrics

  • Adhere to a deadline-driven workflow by completing curriculum & required supplemental materials within the timeline required at each phase

  • Facilitate training for effective instruction for workshop facilitators 

  • Provide ongoing feedback and support regarding curriculum instruction to Program Manager and staff

  • Stay current with developments and trends in the areas of virtual and in-person learning, entrepreneurship, and business development

  • Occasionally visit program sites to observe and evaluate curriculum instruction and implementation

  • The curriculum and program design is aligned with the strategic direction of the organization including our logic model and theory of change
     

  • You create a process to seamlessly integrate new curriculum without last minute, hair on fire, organizational detrimental chaos which negatively impacts the student experience
     

  • You connect the program content and approach to the students in a way that excites them and keeps them engaged
     

  • Your direct involvement in the programs leads to successful program outcomes as defined by our logic model

REQUIREMENTS

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders  (e.g. community partners, families, school admin, and donors).
     

  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision, be flexible, and manage multiple priorities
     

  • Ability to work with a small team to manage multiple projects for different stakeholders while managing your daily responsibilities in a fast-paced, startup environment
     

  • Organizational, communication and problem-solving skills - must be organized and able to manage a variety of tasks
     

  • Demonstrated success developing entrepreneurial content & curriculum, in accordance with overall program goals and metrics 
     

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail
     

  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in and/or developing impactful programs in an entrepreneurial support environment (i.e. incubator, accelerator, ESO/BSO, VC firm, etc.)
     

  • Experience developing programming that considers the impact of race, gender, socio-economic status, and other identities on academic and educational experiences for founders/entrepreneurs
     

  • Experience developing impactful youth programming in an educational setting, youth development agency, or out-of-school program strongly encouraged, but not required
     

  • Experience using software management and LMS tools (i.e.  Airtable, Google Suites, MailChimp, Slack, Asana. LMS tools like Thinkific, Schoology, Teachable, or something similar.)
