During Women's History Month we hosted an event in partnership with Jordan centered around mental wellness. This event was designed to remind our female Gamechangers about the importance of taking time for their mental well-being, especially in the fast-paced, demanding world of balancing school & entrepreneurship.
The entrepreneurial mindset is not just about innovative business strategies. It also involves maintaining a balanced and healthy mental state and resilience. After all, our minds are the powerhouse that fuels our ideas and actions, and managing its wellbeing is a critical part of the journey. Mental health is a crucial aspect of entrepreneurship, particularly for women of color who face unique challenges. Research shows that about 72% of entrepreneurs are directly or indirectly affected by mental health issues, a significantly higher rate than the 48% observed in the general population (World Economic Forum) (Minutes). Women of color, in particular, contend with additional stressors such as systemic biases and intersectional discrimination, which can exacerbate mental health issues like anxiety and depression. Addressing mental health is essential for sustaining the well-being and productivity of entrepreneurs.
The day was filled with engaging activities and insightful conversations. We started by hosting an entrepreneurship chat with IB Majekodunmi of Refine Collective, CEO of World of Boby Kirsten Corley Bennett, Realtor Krystal Corley and photographer Bianca Garcia. This was followed by a vision boarding session, a creative and motivational exercise that encouraged our students to visualize their goals and aspirations.
Next on the agenda was a sound bath meditation led by T’keyah Canada of Refresher Sessions. This calming practice was aimed at promoting relaxation and mental clarity amidst the fast-paced life of our young entrepreneurs.
To top off the day, each participant went home with an exclusive pair of Jordans! We believe strongly in the importance of mental wellness in entrepreneurship and are incredibly grateful to the Jordan Brand for making this event possible and for creating an unforgettable experience for our students. By addressing mental health head-on and providing tools for well-being, we aim to equip our female Gamechangers with the resilience and clarity needed to thrive in their entrepreneurial endeavors.
