Position Title: Program Intern
Organization Profile The Gray Matter Experience (TGME) is a non-profit and entrepreneurial experience program for Black high school students. Our mission is to expose Black youth to entrepreneurship and provide them access to the tools and resources necessary to build businesses that impact their communities. We believe that by allowing students to serve on the front lines of community growth and ownership, it will increase their self-worth and strengthen ties to their the communities in which they live.
Position Overview The Program Intern will be responsible for helping to plan and execute the second iteration of our program. Being a Program Intern for The Gray Matter Experience is an excellent experience for working with education, management, and community building. We see this position as an integral part of our mission to uplift students from under-resourced communities and help close the education, knowledge and resource gap. This position is currently unpaid, but other incentives will be offered.
Intern Responsibilities Responsibilities include assisting with all aspects of the program - event planning, processing scholar and application data, maintaining data and scholar records, and other tasks as assigned.
Other tasks include:
Email communication with potential volunteers and partners as well as assist with weekly student check-ins to ensure students are completing assignments.
Identifying vendors, field trips, workshop facilitators for weekly workshops.
Identifying capacity building resources for student founders including articles, digital entrepreneurial resources, and community events.
Intern will occasionally be asked to carry out In-School program facilitation
Intern will be responsible for using personal and organizational resources to identify and onboard volunteers & mentors
Fulfill all other duties as assigned by the founder and director of programs

Interns are provided supervision through both formal and informal feedback to help them grow. In this way, interns develop their leadership and communication skills, and build their learning of non-profit organizations and business practices.
We are happy to work with your university to give course credit for your work with us. While we do have a specific structure & goals for this internship, we are able to customize it based on your academic schedule and skills.
Internship Requirements
Must be a full-time college student or recent graduate
Must be available to lead weekly session once per week and to be on call to assist students on a regular basis
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of team members
Must be willing to make at least 6 month long commitment for this position
This position requires approximately 10-15 hours per week.
This is a remote position with occasional on site meetings and program duties
Must provide own transportation to program site
Must be available Saturdays from March - May 2018
Applicants should also have strong writing and problem-solving skills, be organized and able to manage a variety of tasks, have a strong understanding of entrepreneurship, and be able to work independently and collaborate as part of a team
